For many people, the 12 Days of Christmas holds special meaning that goes beyond the song’s lyrics. In Christian tradition, the twelve days mark the span between Jesus Christ’s birth and the Epiphany on January 6th, when the Three Wiseman came to honor Him. The carol itself is believed to originate from to 18th century France, though the song we sing today most likely came from Frederic Austin, the English composer who set today’s lyrics to the melody in 1909. Despite its apocryphal origins, many people hold that the Seven Swans a Swimming represent either the seven gifts of the Holy Spirt or the seven Sacraments.
Whatever meaning this song holds for you, we hope our beloved pewter ornaments will enrich your holidays and help you start or continue beautiful family traditions.
